Therapy

Options therapists are frequently the first point of contact for adults seeking help with issues they have been unable to resolve alone.  Our therapists include mental health professionals such as counselors, social workers, marriage and family counselors, and clinical psychologists who understand the principles of human development, psychology, and mental health and are able to help with:

  • Defining and reaching wellness goals
  • Overcoming fears or insecurities
  • Coping with stress
  • Identifying “triggers”
  • Improving relationships with family and friends
  • Establishing a stable, dependable routine
  • Developing a plan for coping with situations that contribute to feelings of discomfort and anxiety

Therapists use a variety of treatment models including evidence-based practice models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR),  and Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).  An individual assessment of each person’s strengths and needs helps to guide the therapy approach.

The therapist works with the individual to develop a service or treatment plan that is based on proven and effective strategies to help address areas of difficulty.  While some issues are best addressed through some form of individual or group therapy others are more effectively addressed through services such as Case Management, Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) educational classes or employment and education assistance. When this is the case, the therapist will discuss this with him or her. Regardless of the path to wellness that each individual takes, Options’ treatment and support is a partnership between our staff and the individual seeking help. Each individual plays an active and important role in his or her own recovery.

Options has many therapists and other clinical personnel working at the college and university, medical offices, public safety programs and other locations in our communities.  This availability makes it easier for people to reach out and get care in places where they normally frequent and are comfortable.

Options maintains close contractual and collaborative relationships other mental health agencies and private licensed therapists in our community.  Through Options and these other agencies and therapists, our community has a wide range of choice and ready access for their mental health care.
